Global Software Engineering

Global Software Development (GSD) promises benefits that an organization distributing its work globally can achieve: global resource pools, attractive cost structures, the possibility of developing around the clock, presence on local markets etc. However, there is also an increasing number of reports about problems in distributed projects caused by various characteristics inherent to remote and global collaboration, resulting in high failure rates of GSD projects or tendencies towards “nearshoring”. Our work focuses on techniques, methods, and tools that support global software development (e.g., development in the cloud, risk management) as well as on collaboration issues (e.g., innovative decision models for task distribution, onboarding).
